Overview

Ooredoo, one of the leading telecom company of Qatar, needed a BI tool for its everyday business. 'Recharge Qatar', it's in-house tech partner came up with a solution - 'Recharge 365'

The developed tool had significant UX issues which needed to be solved before sharing it with Ooredoo's clients & partners. This is when I was consulted to help them solve those UX issues.

Thus, this project talks about the journey of re-designing the 'Recharge Qatar's Analytics Dashboard' & learning the most important lesson of dealing with 'not-so-easy' clients.

About Recharge Qatar

About 'Recharge Qatar'

Recharge Qatar, commencing its Qatar operations in 2008, is today positioned as the leading IT Solutions and Services Company in Qatar. It provides end-to-end solutions and services in categories of IT & Telecom products to over 10 international brands in Qatar, including Ooredoo.

About 'Recharge 365' tool

Recharge 365, the BI tool was designed to help both the leadership team at Ooredoo & its clients/ partners the analytics support they needed for their business (sales, inventory, reports etc.)

Ooredoo had 15+ digital product offerings, distributed by its 7 distributor companies across 100+ retailers, serving across Qatar in 10+ cities. Thus, there were 3 primary categories for the platform to track.

The platform not only gives an analytical insight of the business, but also helps generate a customisable executive reports that were required to be presented to its leadership teams.

Challenges & Learnings

Challenges & Learnings

1

We faced significant challenge in understanding the mental model of the end user

Even after 3 rounds of changes in the user flow, we're still facing issue in the 'Report Generation' flow

2

The client needed customisation on the granularity of the KPIs shown at every level

Incorporating last-moment changes based on the Ooredoo's partners' feedback, we often had to go against the design system on the layout

3

The client was too consious of its branding

Had been given a chance, they wanted to overflow the dashboard with their logo & branding, even if they had to go against the rule of 'Visual Coherence'

Not everything you designed would make it to production, and that is fine. Take all the learnings you can.

Successfully dealing with complex clients depends on how gently we challenging their self-beliefs & produce solutions that gives them confidence that we're on their sides
